They pamper the skin, they feel like raw silk, sexy, she says, and if you’re fed up with the style, you can simply eat them up: milk fibers! These healthy fibers are extracted from milk that is over the point, that is not for drinking any more. You take care of the body as well, because they are chemically completely untreated, a pure natural product, washable at 60 degrees and about 10 year shelf life, such as wool.In 2009 Anke Domaske began experimenting with a mixer, egg white powder and a jam-thermometer in her kitchen. She was 26 years old and had just completed her studies in microbiology. Her aim was to develop a skin-friendly fabric, a material that is completely safe for people with allergies. She fiddled and tried until a fiber originated from protein, casein, egg white powder and a few secrets.
The mixture she squeezed through a pasta machine and so created her first fibers. “And the caseins (milk proteins) also have an antibacterial effect, so bacteria can not grow on these fibers,” Anke Domaske proudly explains the peculiarities of her invention. In cooperation with the Fibercompany “FIBRE” in Bremen she developed and refined the process for fiber production from the milk component yet, and founded in 2011 her Startup “QMilk“. With her company she filed a patent on the first 100-percent organic milk fiber. The production of milk fiber is carried out completely under the requirement to conserve resources. End of May 2015, she wins the Green Oskar handed in Berlin, the GreenTecAward. It is one of the largest awards for green technologies in Europe. Anke Teske collected it in the category “Production” with her company QMilk from Hannover. A great reward after 4 years and a wonderful connection to her second passion: fashion.Already with 19, she founded her own fashion label: MCC Style!
Now she connected both together and you can order the Qmilch-Pieces on the fashion label MCC*. The label MCC website provides an overview of the latest collections. But it is also worth getting a look at their QMilk page. Anke Domaske has continuously developed the product and taken into account the strong demand for the stylish cloth. From the one-woman company she has grown up to a company with 20 employees. The kitchen-laboratory has changed into a large production hall, with separate machines from the milk the protein, which is mixed in a second step with water and natural additives. This “dough” is forced through a die to form fibers which are thinner than hair. The machine is able to produce 2000 tonnes of fibers per year. That’s enough for millions of T-shirts. But in the moment, due to strong demand, everything sold out. *At the earliest from 2016, the company will again deliver clothes.
It is hard to believe that dresses can be sustained and healthyly produced in such a way, but Prof. Dr. Beate Paulus, scientist of Chemistry and Biochemistry at the Free University of Berlin confirmed that: “Each protein, milk protein can be spun into a fiber (polymerized). And thus also to dresses. The milk is there, I do not know how the process works exactly, whether with milk powder or liquid milk, as well as the processes are well known. What you need, naturally, is a “spinning“, a system that links the milk proteins.“
Meanwhile, Anke Domaske also produces cosmetic products from the last milk. Together with her technical director Christoph Nagler she goes even further, industrial fibers and plastics Compose for packaging or even components for the automotive industry, that’s what they’re looking forward to.
Up to 2017, just a team is put together for sustainable milk supplier. All small dairy farmers that produce sustainably can apply via this link: www.qmilk-collect.com
